Why Housing?

The United States needs more homes—at least 3.85 million more. When there aren't enough homes, prices go up, more people become homeless, and people are forced to move away from their communities.

Economy

Not having enough homes increases homelessness and housing insecurity. It costs the United States economy around $2 trillion each year in lost wages and productivity. It also increases inflation and makes it harder for people to find good jobs.

Equity

The housing shortage affects people of color more because of historic racism that persists in our laws. This makes it even harder for them to build wealth, stay healthy, and find good jobs and schools.

Environment

When cities don't have enough homes close to jobs and stores, it leads to more pollution from cars and harms nature by destroying wildlife habitats. It also wastes important resources like water and electricity.
